Privacy Policy for Chain Wax
Last updated: August 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Chain Wax ("we," "us," or "our") processes when you use our mobile application (the "App") and website (the "Site"), why we use it, and the choices available to you.
At a Glance
- Chain Wax uses your Strava account, bike, and ride-distance information to track chain waxing.
- We use Firebase to operate notifications and understand how the App is used. Analytics is linked to your Strava athlete ID after sign-in.
- If iCloud is available, wax data is also stored in your private iCloud database so it can sync across your Apple devices.
- We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Disconnecting Strava does not automatically delete data already held on our servers or in iCloud. You can request deletion of server data by contacting us.
1. Information We Process
Strava information
- When you connect Strava, we process your athlete ID, basic profile information, bikes or other gear, and ride information needed by Chain Wax, such as ride distance and the bike used.
- The App keeps Strava authentication credentials on your device. If your device is registered for notifications, those credentials are also stored on our servers so Chain Wax can process new rides and determine whether to notify you.
- Strava may monitor and collect information about Chain Wax's access to and use of the Strava API ("Usage Data"). Strava may use this information for internal or external business purposes, including improving its API and platform, providing developer or user support, and verifying compliance with its API terms. Strava processes this information under its Privacy Policy.
Wax data and preferences
- We process your per-bike wax status and history, mileage, wax and quick-link counts, ride conditions, custom intervals, distance unit, display settings, and notification choices.
Notifications, analytics, and diagnostics
- If your device is registered for notifications, we store a device push identifier and the preferences and wax information needed to decide which notifications to send.
- Firebase Analytics records information such as feature interactions, wax-related activity, device and app information, and errors. After Strava sign-in, this analytics is associated with your Strava athlete ID and is therefore linked to your account rather than anonymous.
iCloud data
- If you are signed into iCloud, the App stores a copy of your wax data in your private iCloud database. Apple processes this data as part of iCloud; Chain Wax does not receive the private iCloud copy through its servers.
Website and support
- If you contact support, we receive the information in your message. Our Site and email providers may also process standard technical information needed to deliver and protect those services.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide Strava sign-in, calculate distance since the last wax, and maintain your wax history.
- Send the notification types you choose after relevant Strava rides.
- Remember your settings and synchronize wax data through iCloud when available.
- Understand App usage, diagnose problems, improve Chain Wax, and respond to support or privacy requests.
3. Where Information Is Stored and Shared
- Your device: Stores Strava credentials, cached Strava information, wax data, and App preferences.
- Your iCloud account: Stores a private copy of wax data when iCloud is available.
- Chain Wax servers: Use Google Firebase to store and process the account, notification, and wax information needed for push notifications and analytics.
- Service providers: Google Firebase supports our servers, messaging, and analytics; Apple provides iCloud and push delivery; and Strava provides sign-in and ride information. Site and email providers support the website and customer service.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites. We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, Chain Wax, or others.
We use reasonable safeguards and encrypted connections, but no electronic storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
4. Data Retention
- We process Strava rides as needed for App functionality and notifications; we do not intentionally keep a complete copy of your Strava activity history on our servers.
- Disconnecting Strava removes Strava credentials and wax data from that device, although some App preferences remain.
- Your private iCloud copy remains until you delete it through Apple's iCloud controls. Disconnecting Strava does not delete it.
- Disabling notifications or disconnecting Strava does not currently delete your Chain Wax server record automatically. Disconnecting unregisters the current device for push notifications, but account, authentication, notification, and wax information may remain on our servers.
- You may request deletion of your Chain Wax server data by emailing support@chainwaxapp.com. We may need to verify your connection to the Strava account. Deletion may take a reasonable period, and limited information may remain where required by law or temporarily in backups.
- Analytics is retained according to our Firebase settings. Aggregated or de-identified information that no longer identifies you may be retained.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- Disconnect Strava in the App to sign out, clear wax data from that device, and unregister that device from push notifications.
- Revoke Chain Wax separately from your connected-app settings in Strava to prevent future authorized Strava access.
- Choose notification types inside the App or disable notifications in iOS Settings.
- Manage or delete private iCloud data through Apple's iCloud settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with you. Email support@chainwaxapp.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity or Strava account.
6. Children's Privacy
Chain Wax is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
7. Updates to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy periodically. We will post the revised policy here with a new "Last updated" date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice in the App or on the Site.
